Compete for a distributor position with Anheuser-Busch with planning and patience.
A beer distributor sells beer to retailers who have a liquor license. Before you can sell beer to a retailer you must have an alcohol distribution permit. To become a distributor with a successful company like Anheuser-Busch, which sells the two most popular beers in the world -- Budweiser and Bud Light -- you will also need to network and persevere.
Instructions
1. Get an Employer Identification Number (EIN) by applying through the IRS. The easiest way to apply for an EIN is by doing it online at irs.gov. The application is available online between 6 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. (EST) Monday through Friday; on Saturdays, it's available between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. (EST); and on Sundays, it's available between 7 p.m. and 12 a.m. (EST). If you've filled everything in correctly, you will receive your EIN after completing the online forms.
2. Apply for an alcohol distribution permit by filling out the permit form. You can find the permit form -- named "TTB Form 5100.24" -- at ttb.gov. Have your EIN number ready because you will need it when filling in the form. Send the form to the address listed on the form.
3. Fill out the power of attorney form -- TTB Form 5000.8 -- which is located on the same web page as the alcohol distribution permit, if your permit form was signed by someone other than you. Send the form to the address listed.
4. Fill out the Personnel Questionnaire form -- TTB Form 5000.9. You only have to fill out this form if you are a citizen of a foreign country, if you have lived outside of the United States for more than two years after you were 18 years old, or if you have an association with a foreign country. Send the form to the appropriate address listed on the questionnaire.
5. Apply for a state distributor permit in the state you intend to distribute beer in. You may have to fill out more than one form, depending on the state you are applying in. You can find the permit forms by contacting your state's Alcohol and Tobacco department. You'll find that most state permit forms, like Indiana's, can be found online. Send the form to the address listed on the form.
6. Join an alcohol trade association, like the National Beer Wholesalers Association. When you become a member of one of these trade associations you will be able to meet others in the industry and find out about job openings at places like Anheuser-Busch; you will be able to learn about new government regulations quickly; and you will be able to improve your skill set by attending conventions and other educational events that are held by your association.
7. Apply for a beer distributor job at Anheuser-Busch by filling in an application at buschjobs.com. Simply click on "Opportunities" when you're at the website, search for a distributor job, and follow the prompts to fill in and submit the application.
