In the US, regulations for online gambling are fairly strict and as states enact their own local legislation, it becomes even harder to meet those regulations and still run a gambling business online. Online gambling can include a wide variety of practices, including betting on sports, playing online games of chance and any other type of gambling conducted over the Internet.
Instructions
1. Do not transfer information about sports betting across state lines. The Federal Wire Act specifically prohibits electronic transmissions, although that set of regulations does not specifically forbid Internet gambling on games of chance.
2. Check the laws in your state. Several states have enacted regulations against online gambling, although some have specified particular types of gambling in their legislation.
3. Obtain a license for your gambling operation in order to meet federal gaming requirements. At this time, no states are granting online gaming licenses, but if you are located outside of the US you may be able to obtain a license in your home country.
4. Do not advertise for online gambling on any website you operate. While US law only explicitly forbids advertising illegal activities, it can be very difficult to single out legal gambling operations.
5. Operate outside of US borders if you wish to conduct an online gambling business legally. Many countries have much looser regulations on the subject. However, it may not be legal for US citizens to access foreign websites for the purpose of gambling.
