The Top Accounting And Business Schools

U.S. News and World Report and Bloomberg BusinessWeek rank business schools and accounting programs.

While accounting is a popular field of study within business programs, just because a business school is top-ranked doesn't necessarily mean that the accounting program is top-ranked as well. And just because a school has a top-flight business program does not automatically mean that the accounting program is highly-rated. Students, faculty and deans also have varying opinions on what makes a good accounting program or business school, which influences publications' rankings depending upon what rating criteria they use.

Accounting

While deans and faculty rated the accounting program at Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business as No. 8 in the country, students surveyed by Bloomberg BusinessWeek rated the program (which requires 18 credits of accounting courses) tops in the nation. College deans and faculty gave the program at the University of Texas at Austin the highest rating on U.S. News and World Report's ranking of Best Accounting Programs, but students in Bloomberg surveys disagreed, rating the program at No. 16. According to their website, UT Austin's McCombs School of Business Accountancy program also ranked No. 2 in the nation on a Public Accounting Report survey of accounting professors.
