Promote A Healthy Lifestyle

To successfully promote a healthy lifestyle, you must live it.

When asked, most people can easily describe what it is exactly that depicts a healthy lifestyle. However, unless you are active in pursuing or are already maintaining a healthy lifestyle, it is almost impossible to promote it. Whether you are trying to promote a healthy lifestyle in your field of work or model it for your friends, family, spouse or children, the most powerful way to advocate change in others is to be a living example of just what a healthy lifestyle is, inside and out.

Instructions

1. Avoid all forms of smoking. If you currently smoke, stop immediately. Smoking has so many risks, including various types of lung diseases, and is a leading cause of death. By quitting smoking, you will instantly prolong the length of your life, while at the same time show those around you who smoke that giving it up for the sake of better health is not only possible, but necessary.

2. Maintain a healthy weight. Keeping your weight where it should be is essential to avoiding and combating obesity. Obesity has been linked to the development of a number of cancers, including uterine cancer, kidney cancer, gallbladder cancer, colon cancer, and breast cancer. Determine your required caloric intake and follow that guideline.

3. Exercise regularly. Getting at least 30 minutes of exercise each day will help you maintain your weight and keep you in good cardiovascular health. Exercise is necessary to help fight weight gain and lessen your risk of cancer. Easy ways to get more activity include taking the stairs instead of the elevator, going for daily walks during lunch breaks or after dinner, and parking your car farther away in parking lots.

4. Eat a healthy diet. Rid your diet of all chemical-laden, processed foods and refined sugars and bleached flours. Eat lean proteins, a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and a 25 to 30 grams of healthy fats each day, such as avocados and olive oil. Eating healthy will help you maintain your weight and will increase your energy levels, while improving your skin tone and even your complexion.

5. Reduce your consumption of alcohol. Excessive consumption of alcohol has been linked to many different cancers, such as oral cancers. Limit yourself to three servings per week if possible. In social situations, your ability to control how much you drink will impact those around you -- they will notice and may be moved toward changing their own drinking habits.
