Prospective buyers do not always receive well salespeople who go door to door, a way of cold calling. Some prospective buyers view this like an unwanted telemarketing phone call. So if you decide to use this method of developing sales leads, use an enthusiastic sales pitch that will pique the interest of the prospective customer.
Instructions
1. Research the demographics of the area you plan to visit. You may find that particular area doesn't have residents who fit the target market outlined in your marketing plan. In this case, check the demographics of other areas instead.
2. Keep your sales pitch short and sweet when you visit customers at home. Know exactly what you want to say before you even ring the doorbell. Bring sales materials with you, including business cards and brochures. Dress clean and professionally.
3. Initiate your door-to-door sales effort on a day when you're in a positive and confident mood. Prepare yourself mentally for both rejection and acceptance, but do not allow rejection to discourage you during your visits. Choose a nice day weather-wise; beautiful weather can also positively affect your enthusiasm for this task. When you have the attention of a prospective buyer, smile and look him directly in the eye when you're speaking.
4. Identify who you are with your full name and title. Explain that you have a business in the area and briefly describe the services you offer. Ask if he has ever found a need for your type of product or service.
5. Discuss your company's reputation and years in business so that potential leads know you're not a fly-by-night operation. Display your genuine enthusiasm for your company; if you don't believe your company is great, other people might not, either.
6. Field questions about your service or products if the prospective buyer asks. Take cues from the prospect; if he's interested he will likely continue the conversation and open the door more, so engage him with more information about the product features and benefits. Ask if you can come in to discuss the offering further and possibly close a sale.
7. Provide each interested lead with a free sample of your product or trial of your service along with marketing materials, even if the lead doesn't decide to buy on your first visit. Ask the lead to call you if he wants more or to discuss the offering further. Ask if you can have his contact information or if it's fine that you send him some more details about the offering.
