Insert a Reference in PowerPoint 2007
Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, part of the Microsoft Office Suite, allows you to put together a presentation of information, data, charts and pictures. Whether your presentation is a single slide or a deck of hundreds, you might have the need to cite your work, giving credit to the person or place where you got your information. This is done through references, or footnotes. While you might be familiar with the quick footnote style through other Office products such as Word, PowerPoint doesn't offer the same feature, but you can still give credit where credit is due through just a few quick clicks.
Instructions
1. Open PowerPoint 2007, click "File" and click "Open." Browse to the presentation with the slide to add a reference to and double-click the file name. The slide show opens in a PowerPoint window.
2. Scroll through the slide deck on the left side of the screen and double-click a slide to open it in the main pane on the right side of the screen.
3. Position your cursor at the end of the sentence, word or bullet point to add a reference to and type "1." The number will be the same size, font and color as the rest of the text.
4. Highlight the new number and right-click it. Select "Font." Check the "Superscript" box under the "Effects" section to give the number the footnote look. Change any other options, such as font color and text font on the screen, then click the "OK" button. The number changes to a reference footnote.
5. Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the screen. Click the "Text Box" button in the middle of the toolbar at the top of the screen.
6. Press and hold down your left mouse button and click and drag a text box at the bottom of the slide.
7. Type the number "1," the same number you used for your footnote. Type the reference information, such as the book or website where you got your information.
8. (Optional) Highlight the text in the reference, click the "Home" tab at the top of the screen and use the controls in the "Font" section to change the reference's font, text size, text color and position.
9. Click the "File" tab, click "Save As" and re-save the slide show or save it with a new name and version number so as not to overwrite the original.
