Creative Promotional Ideas

Items or drawings on sidewalks quickly draw attention.

With technology making it much easier to promote products and ideas to a larger number of people, it has become more difficult for businesspeople or organization leaders to get the attention of sponsors or clients due to the sheer number of advertisements present. As a result, the need for creative promotional ideas is greater than ever. Although there are dozens of creative ideas that one might use, it is best to start with the cheapest and simplest so that profit stays high.

Logos

Logos are graphic designs that represent an organization or company. It is common for businesspeople and organization leaders to use these logos on correspondence and company/organization documents, but the Minnesota State Department of Health suggests expanding the use of logos to other items. For example, you might put your logo on some T-shirts, which you then could give away as prizes at your organization's events. Other places where you can use your logo include mugs, bags, binders and toys, such as frisbees. The items that you use with your logo will depend on the promotional events you pick. For example, frisbees are much better for outdoor events, while bags and binders are better for company or organization seminars.

Sidewalk Messages

Sidewalks surround business and organizations, and people often look down at the ground as they walk. The SimPliSign website suggests making use of these facts and using some sidewalk chalk to draw pictures or write advertisements for your group. These advertisements do not need to be elaborate--even a series of simple arrows leading toward your store door may spark interest of those going by. This idea is especially good for any store that has to do with kids, although stores that cater to "the kid at heart" (e.g., ice cream shops) also may find the idea beneficial. The key with this method is to use very bright colors that contrast with the dull gray of the sidewalk and nearby buildings.

Stunts

On the Entrepreneur website, Isabella Trebond supports using stunts as promotional tools. Stunts are outrageous or silly gimmicks that challenge social expectations. They draw attention simply because they go against what one might expect to see and, by nature, are unusual. The stunt that you try depends on your organization, but examples might include walking around in a superhero costume (e.g., for a comic book or toy store), having a pie-in-face contest (e.g., a bakery) or hiring someone to sing or play music about your group at the door (e.g., a record store or orchestra hall).
