Promote My New Business

When used wisely, social networking can be an excellent way to promote a new business.

If you're launching a new business, especially if it is your first business venture, you may be overwhelmed with questions on promote it. Promotion is essential to the success of a new business. Customers need to know about your services, and it is up to you to make sure that they do. Fortunately, there are many ways to promote your new business and get your product into the public eye.

Instructions

1. Use your advertising budget wisely. New business owners may make the mistake of trying to reach everyone with advertising, instead of speaking directly to a specific demographic. Identify your target market, or individuals most likely to purchase your products or services. For example, your landscaping services are more likely to appeal to property owners than apartment renters, so conducting research on your area's homeowners can help you focus advertising on places they shop, magazines they read and where they go to get a cup of coffee.

2. Take advantage of social networking opportunities through sites such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or MySpace, but don't get carried away. Remember, you will need to spend time interacting for social media sites to help promote your business. Find networks most likely to be used by your target market. Most networking sites will make this easy by allowing you to conduct user preference polls. Estimate how much time you can afford to spend on these sites promoting your new company and narrow your options accordingly. "The only thing worse than not having a presence on an important social network is having a [bad] one," says Lisa Barone, Chief Branding Officer for Outspoken Media.

3. Investigate other ways to get your business product out into the world. Find ways to engage in public relations activities, suggests the Small Business Administration. Possibilities could include involving your business in community events, sending press releases about your business to local papers or getting involved in charitable organizations that attract members of your customer demographic. The more socially engaged your business is, the more opportunities you will have to promote your product and brand.
