Promote A Small Retail Business With Little Money

A key to any small retail business is customers. You are responsible for getting those customers through your doors. This can be a hard process at times. The most difficult time is when you are first opening. A new retail business has no customer base. You have to promote your business even more until your name is established, even if you do not have much money for a promotions budget.

Instructions

1. You should start to spread the word before you open the doors. Have a grand opening for your business. This will allow you to draw excitement to it. Get your store completely organized and plan a opening date. Make sure the date is far enough in advance for you to prepare. You should be able to have everything complete at least a week before the opening date.

2. Make professional flyers for your business. These flyers should include your business name, address, phone number and your opening date. Have these flyers distributed in the area of your business. You can either do this yourself or hire someone to do it. Check your local laws for this process. Some neighborhoods do not allow solicitations, and if that's the case, follow the law: you do not want to create a negative view of your business right off the bat.

3. Introduce yourself to your neighbors. Your neighboring stores offer quite a few customers. Go to each company and introduce yourself and your company to each of them. You may also offer a coupon specially made for your neighboring businesses. This will make them feel special and more might attend your grand opening.

4. Distribute business cards to everyone. Your business cards should have the same information as the flyers. Give a few to family members to distribute to people they know. If you hear someone discussing items you will be selling, give them a card and introduce yourself. This is a very personal touch to your promoting process. It may very well get you more customer, because they have met you.

5. Use free websites for promoting. There are numerous sites online that will allow you to promote your business without paying a dime. This will promote your grand opening and continue to promote your business.

6. Depending on your business, you may want to offer special items on your grand opening day. You can offer a few snacks, drinks, or just have great first day sale prices. This will depend on your preferences and your customer base. What you offer to your customers on the first day may affect your future business. There should be something special to make them want to return.

7. After your grand opening, you should continue to promote your business. Promoting is a major part of any retail business. Your name will become more well known with time. It may take a little while. With proper promoting, business management and customer care, you will become successful.
