Build A Web Hosting Company Like Hostgator

Build a Web Hosting Company Like Hostgator

Creating a web hosting company can be profitable even with a small number of clients. However, it needs a large amount of work, a sizable investment and constant vigilance to make sure your clients are happy and spreading good reviews about you. A basic hosting company requires a Web server and a DNS (Domain Name Server) server. As your company grows you will likely have to add more web servers, dedicate servers for database and create your own Virtual Machine cloud.

Instructions

1. Choose a collocation provider. Hosting companies that are not resellers of another company need to be hosted in a data center. Make sure the data center is secure physically, has sufficient power backup reserve and is close to where you live. Make sure they also do not operate near capacity and that you will be able to have your park of servers grown as your business does.

2. Decide what services you want to provide your clients. Hosting can be dedicated, VPS or shared. Calculate how much a client will cost you for each of those categories. Take into account the amount of bandwidth, number of IP address, amount of space and amount of power used. The more precise you are the less likely you will sell your services at a loss.

3. Decide what software to buy to manage your web hosting company. Cpanel is the leader in that sector and using them is expected by certain customers. Also decide if you want to use Windows or Linux as your operating system. Providing both Windows and Linux hosting is not necessary.

4. Hire a system administrator, if you do not have technical expertise necessary to run a web hosting service. Review the resumes carefully and contact all their previous employers. Do not take everything the applicant's references say at face value. Try to contact the applicant's former coworkers to ask them what they thought of her. Hire an administrator with DNS and webhosting experience.

5. Come up with an interesting company identity. If you are new to the market, you need to differentiate yourself from the more experienced host companies. Create a website including all your offers on the front page. Do not have people look for your prices.

6. Install the hosting and DNS software on the servers and bring them to the data center. Test all the function of your websites from creating an account from start to finish, to uploading a website with databases and php.
