Advertise Real Estate

Selling a property can be a complex process. Advertising should ideally help make this process easier by bringing your real estate to the attention of potential buyers. Fortunately, there are many ways to advertise properties for sale, including via a full-service broker, through newspaper ads and even to the attention of interested parties while they do their weekly grocery run.

Instructions

1. Sign up with a full-service real estate agent. He will advertise your property in many mediums. These usually include realtor.com, the largest online database of houses for sale.

2. Advertise in newspapers. Many newspapers have a weekly section devoted to real estate news, and this is a low-cost way for you to advertise your property for sale. In your ad stick to factual language, including the property's number of bedrooms and baths as well as its square footage. A newspaper ad is also a good way for you to advertise an open house. Specify a time and date when you will be home. Make sure the ad contains the property's address. If you're having trouble wording the ad, call the newspaper and ask for help. Copy editors are on staff and available to assist you.

3. Advertise on supermarket, religious and community bulletin boards. Many public places have a large corkboard where customers and attendees may place an ad for their services. This applies to advertising real estate as well. Create a flier that includes the details about your property for sale, such as its price, a complete description and a photo. Add a phone number where you can be reached at the bottom of the advertisement. The number should be perforated so it can be torn off without taking down the rest of the ad. If you don't have a copy machine, you can take a sample copy to a local printer such as Kinko's and have copies made for a small sum.

Check the bulletin boards carefully. With some bulletin boards, you can leave up your flier for several weeks. On others, all ads are taken down on a certain day of the week at a certain time.

4. Place fliers in a box next to your "for sale" sign. Passersby should be able to grab copies as they walk by. On the sign in front of the house it should be mentioned that fliers are available to anyone interested.

5. Advertise in specialty real estate magazines such as "The Real Estate Book," which focus solely on properties for sale and are available for free. These are often available in local neighborhood businesses for patrons to read as they wait for service. An advertisement should include a description of the property as well a contact phone number.

6. Create a flier with a picture of your property, and mail it out to groups of people who should include those in the immediate neighborhood of where your property is located. Those living on a certain street may know others who are seeking to move there. You should also mail a flier to people looking to buy property. For a small fee, you can purchase from direct marketers the names and addresses of people who may be in the market for property.
