Marketing Tactics Used By Websites To Promote Their Auctions

Running an auction website requires visibility to as many Internet users as possible. Having a fancy site that auctions off quality products isn't enough to attract traffic. You will need to deploy marketing tactics that will give your auction the buzz that it needs to succeed. These don't have to be costly, but your focus should be on attracting as much attention as possible to make your auction a success.

Videos

Producing a video to advertise your website auction is a way to generate attention. Upload it to a video sharing site, such at YouTube, or on your auction website. The video can highlight an item you have on your auction or can be short and funny enough for people to pass around to their friends for the entertainment value. Place your website address on the bottom of the screen so the origins of the video will never be a mystery. Normal curiosity will send users to your site if your video catches their attention.

Social Networking

Having a presence on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, is a necessary marketing tactic in 2011. Merely starting the sites isn't enough. You must update the social sites at least once a day. Your auction can have its own accounts. Upload your video or send people to the link. These sites are a great way to advertise the auction events that are happening that day. Highlight items that are of interest to the majority of those in your target market who frequent your social networking sites. Give them the deadline for the auction and update them frequently on the item that you have chosen to track.

Write

The more your name and that of your company appear on the Internet, the more likely you will become familiar to those who are interested in website auctions. To make your brand popular, write articles of information about auctions that make you the expert. Offer your articles to sites that give advice or are related to online auctions. Also, write a blog and frequent others where you can leave a comment. Whenever you have an opportunity to write on the Internet, list your name, company and website address along with a link, if allowed.

Give-Aways

When a user links to your site, offer him an enticement to stay, register and bid on your auctions or list an item for sale. Give-aways work if they are of interest to your target market. Offer a free trial period, if you charge a fee to list an auction item, or offer money loaded on to his account, such as $5, to be used toward the purchase of an item worth $20 or more. You also can have T-shirts or hats made with your auction website address and send one to those who register with your site. This not only rewards your customers, but it provides a way to advertise your website by having your customers be your walking billboards.
