Use Twitter As A Promotional Tool

Twitter can be used as a marketing tool on the information superhighway.

Businesses are riding the social networking wave and marketing themselves in a variety of new ways. Twitter has capitalized on this, and provides businesses with a few different promotional tools. Businesses don't need to wait for their advertising to appear in the next issue of a trade publication, they can "tweet" the news instantaneously.

Instructions

1. Sign your business up for a twitter account and send your first "tweet," which is a message seen by all on in the twitter community. Tweets are restricted to 140 characters or less, but you can send multiple messages out to the community each day. Make special announcements, promote your latest gadget, offer online coupons and specials that reach a very large audience quickly. Special promotions or contests get the attention of your target audience. When your tweets are re-twittered by your audience, then you are on your way to becoming widely known in the Twitter community.

2. Promote your tweet. According to Twitter, "Promoted Tweets are a new form of advertising unique to Twitter that enable you to speak to users that don't currently follow your account." Once you've sent a tweet to your followers, have your tweet show up in query search results by attaching specific keywords to it. There is a fee associated with this promotional tool depending on the number of times and how your tweet is accessed by other users, and as July 2011 this tool is in the Beta testing stage. Sign up to be notified when this tool will be available to all Twitter businesses.

3. Promote your product when it is in the moment. Twitter calls this promoting a trend, and this promotional tool is also in the testing phase at this time.
