A Global Communications Manager typically works in a multinational corporation and works with regional communications teams across the world to ensure that messaging to employees, customers, shareowners and the public is consistent with the overall strategy of the organization. A Global Communications Manager handles all aspects of defining the communications process and how materials are distributed throughout the organization.


Salary


The Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov) lists the average annual salary for communications managers as $105,960, as of 2008. This salary average is representative of all advertising and promotional managers in the fields of advertising, public relations and professional services. A Global Communications Manager is usually a high-level manager with 10 or more years of experience in the field of communications.


The Career Outlook


Global Communications Managers are found in virtually every industry, from transportation to sciences to retail and pharmaceutical. Most Fortune 500 companies have a Global Communications Manager as well as Region Communications Managers that report into the Global Communications department. For instance, at UPS, there are three Region Communications Managers for the Americas (Canada and Latin America), EMEA (Europe and the Middle East) and Asia Pacific. These three managers report into the Global Communications department based at the company's headquarters in Atlanta. Many Global Communications Manager positions are based at their company's headquarters.


Qualifications


To succeed as a Global Communications Manager, it is necessary to have a solid understanding of international relations as well as cultural diversity.
