Online and traditional radio is one of the best ways to get exposure for your event or product. One way to use the radio is through on-air interviews. When you have a newsworthy event, notify your local radio station that you would like to be on-air discussing the event or product. DJs can ask questions for further information while you tell them the basics on your events and product. In the case of damage control, it's the best way to share facts with the media.
Instructions
1. Write a media pitch to send to a radio station. The media pitch should introduce yourself and explain why you should be interviewed on the radio. It's most important to highlight why you are newsworthy. For example, your band is releasing a new album or you are hosting a charity event in two months.
2. Choose what radio stations best fit the demographic you reach out to. Do not waste time contacting radio stations that do not draw the same age and genders you do. This will not help promote your product or cause.
3. Research who are the producers for the radio station as well as the program director. This information is found on the radio station's website under "Contact Us," or you can call the station requesting this information.
4. Collect your media pitch and a press kit if available. Email or mail these documents specifically to program directors and producers.
5. Call the radio station the next week to follow up on your submission. Be persistent and make sure you speak directly to the people you mailed the pitches to.
