Negotiate A Lower Directv Rate

If monthly DirecTV bills are getting you down, check with your provider for a lower rate.

If you started out your DirecTV service at a promotional rate and were surprised by the jump in your monthly bill, then try getting a reduced rate. It's easy to negotiate a lower monthly rate if you are a DirecTV subscriber. Be pleasant, but persistent. This method is for customers whose contracts have expired or who are willing to pay a fee for disconnection. There is no way to get out of a DirecTV contract unless you are moving to a rented location that does not allow satellite dish installation, or if your new location does not have a clear line of sight and you are unable to receive a signal.

Instructions

1. Make sure your DirecTV bill is paid in full before you attempt to lower rates or cancel service.

2. Check competitor rates online as well as over the phone since sometimes you'll get a better deal by calling. Keep detailed notes about what is included in the competitor's price, what kind of service they offer and any other information that seems relevant.

3. Call DirecTV customer service at 1-800-531-5000 and request to speak to a customer service representative.

4. Explain to the customer service representative that you are unhappy with the cost of your service and that you have found a better offer with a competing provider.

5. Explain briefly, but in detail the rate you have been offered by the competing company. Let the service representative know you have done your research.

6. Explain that you would like to stick with DirecTV, but that you will switch if they can't give you a better rate. If you're not really willing to switch, don't make that threat. Simply ask if they'd be willing to meet competitor's pricing. Be firm but polite; being rude is ill-advised.

7. Accept a new rate offer and thank the customer service representative. If you are denied a new rate, call back a few more times. Persistence pays off, and you're likely to get a different agent each time.
