Real Estate Games

Original Monopoly houses and hotels were made of wood.

People enjoy playing games for several reasons: escapism, entertainment, social interaction and mental stimulation. Putting ourselves in another environment, in another career--performing duties that differ from our daily routine--stimulates our imaginations, helps build memory skills and challenges our intellect. With the invention of Monopoly in 1935, America became infatuated with fantasy real estate investing. The world of real estate games has come a long way in the past 75 years, with games now available online, for a quick download.

Monopoly

Even though this game is more than 75 years old, Monopoly is still one of the world's best-selling board games. Neiman-Marcus department store once sold a chocolate version of the game for $600 and Sidney Mobell Jewelers in San Francisco has the distinction of selling his version, with a 23-carat gold game board and diamond-encrusted dice for $2 million. The object of the game is to accumulate the most wealth. To do that you must be a shrewd and wise investor, purchasing pieces of property and building houses and hotels on them. Renting and selling properties helps to build your wealth.

Build-a-Lot

Build-a-Lot is a real estate development game that you can download onto your Microsoft Windows-loaded computer. The object of the game depends upon which of the two modes you are playing: casual or career. In casual mode your goal is to earn a certain amount of money, in the shortest time possible. In career mode you will need to finish a list of tasks, such as building, buying and selling and flipping houses, in a prescribed amount of time. Build-a-Lot was created by HipSoft, a video game development company in Washington state.

Jane's Realty

Jane's Realty is a Microsoft Windows based time-management style and puzzle computer game that puts you in the shoes of a real estate agent. Starring the same Jane that built the hotel empire and did so well in the fashion industry, Jane's Realty puts our heroine in charge of her husband's real estate business while he runs for mayor. As Jane, you are required to develop entire subdivisions, from purchasing the lots to building power stations and water towers. Once the services are in place, it's time to build homes, furnish them and lease them out. Jane's Realty was developed and published by Realore Studios in 2008.
