3d Motorsport Games

Motorsport games involve all kinds of vehicles.

Motorsport is a rather wide genre, roughly defined as a sport involving motorized vehicles, and as such includes everything from Formula 1 racing to 4x4 truck contests. Games developers have designed plenty of titles involving motorsports, and the use of 3D graphics in these games allows for truly realistic representations of motorsport action.

Motorbikes

Motorcycling, especially MotoGP, makes for a popular subgenre of motorsport games. Themed around the Superbike World Championship, "SBK X" is a PlayStation 3 title which allows players to replicate the action from the sport's official season. Included is a career mode, where players can pick a rider, customize his look and vehicle, and then compete to become the top biker of the season. "MotoGP 08" is based around the annual MotoGP Championship, and as such allows players to participate in races set all over the world. Players can also take part in time attack and arcade modes, which modify how the bikes handle, and in a challenge mode which features some 50 events.

Rally

"Off-Road Redneck Racing" offers an arcade slant on rallying games, with players racing rally cars around dirt-based tracks complete with realistic weather conditions. Racers compete against a number of computer opponents in the game's championship mode, with the goal of unlocking hidden courses and vehicles. Each course features shortcuts, useful for helping to best computer-controlled opponents. A more realistic take on rally car driving, "Colin McRae Rally 3" is available on the PlayStation 2. Players participate in rally seasons, and earn parts for their vehicles on successful completion of courses, which come in handy in later races. Car enthusiasts can also adjust vehicle set-ups to their liking.

4x4

A specialized subgenre of motorsport, plenty of 4x4 games exist. In "Larry Ragland 4x4 Challenge" for the PC, players choose to get behind the wheel of one of 15 different 4x4 vehicles, all of which offer both advantages and disadvantages when it comes to factors such as speed and weight. The title features an arcade mode, containing eight courses, and a longer challenge setting. The Xbox title "4x4 Evolution 2" features branded vehicles and professional teams, with hundreds of choices available when it comes to vehicle parts and models. Players can try their hand at 30 arenas in modes such as free roam, quick race and career.

F1

Formula 1 racing has appeared in video gaming since the earliest days of consoles. PlayStation 2 title "F1 Career Challenge," for instance, tasks the player with creating her own F1 star and then playing through a career in the sport. Players then go up against the pros of F1, recreated in game form based on their real-life attributes. "F1 2010" for the PlayStation 3, meanwhile, features an expansive career mode which covers seven seasons, as well as having a multiplayer option. Efforts have been taken by the game's developers to create a realistic racing simulation, with effects such as mud splattering and spraying water appearing as the player races.
