Get Your Book Noticed

Get your book noticed.

Once you have accomplished the difficult task of publishing your book, you should not expect an easy ride. Although the publisher will get your book on the shelf, the literary market is crowded and competitive. You have to think of the smartest possible ways to promote, expose and sell your book, while separating it from the rest.

Instructions

1. Distribute it. Look for literary journals, magazines and online sites that review books in your genre and send in review copies to as many as you can. This is something that publishers should do, but by sharing lists and contributing, you will maximize exposure.

2. Keep an eye for radio stations that are looking for interviewees. As the author of a newly-published book, you are quite an appealing candidate. To do this you need to write and send in a publicity letter or a press release describing your book and why you think it deserves air-time.

3. Create a separate website dedicated to your book. Having a website with an address featuring your title allows you to promote your book, share links and encourage reader reviews and feedback. Be sure to let users know where and purchase your book.

4. Develop your book's website even further. Once you have created your website, advertise user subscriptions and send out an occasional newsletter updating subscribers and filling them in with new information with regards to your book and your book's genre.

5. Read and review other books of the same or similar genre. By reviewing on literary sites such as Amazon, your name will appear under various reviews, along with your own work which users might peruse. Under reviews include your name along with "author of" and the name of your book.

6. Connect with readers through social media. Open a twitter or facebook account to promote your book on a worldwide scale and connect with users instantly. You will be astounded by how many people you can reach. Create a separate facebook page dedicated entirely to your book to insure reader recognition.

7. Look out for bookstores that are interested in author book-signings. Book-signings produce and increase publicity about your book. Even if you only manage to sell a small number of books, you are reaching out to new and potential readers, who are also likely to spread the word. Most local newspapers, if asked, will print small announcements concerning book-signings in and around your area.
