Client services managers must have strong communication and computer skills.


Even after customers purchase a product or sign up for a service, companies continue to market to them in hopes of generating repeat sales. In industries ranging from software to healthcare, organizations assign managers to client services---activities that focus on building strong and lasting relationships with existing clients.


Function


Client services managers act as the primary liaison between customers and the company on matters related to client training, product upgrades, billing questions, reference programs and other customer service issues. Sometimes they assist on sales proposals or work with their product development team to ensure that customer requirements are met.


Education and Skills


Client services roles often require a bachelor's degree in business administration or a discipline similar to the company's industry. Previous sales experience is helpful, as well as strong computer, networking, presentation, leadership and strategic planning skills.


Salary


Compensation for client service roles varies based on factors such as employer type, company revenue and location. According the website PayScale, salaries for client service managers in the United States ranged from $40,489 to $65,142 as of August 2010.
