Do A Letter Of Request For College

Writing a letter of request is the first step toward obtaining letters of recommendation.

Letters of recommendation are an invaluable element of the college application process. When students compete for admission to a selective college, a letter of recommendation can sometimes tip the scales in favor of the applicant. A letter of request is how the student formally requests a recommendation from a teacher or adviser. The letter of request will help the recipient tailor their letter of recommendation to the applicant. Professional schools, such as law schools, medical schools and graduate degree programs require two or more letters of recommendation with each application for admission. A letter of request can help the recipient obtain the recommendation.

Instructions

1. Provide the recommender with the specific deadline for your recommendation and list the titles, names and addresses of the recipients in your letter of request for college. If you are applying to more than one college, make sure that the writer can clearly identify how many copies of the recommendation she needs to make and where to send the letters.

2. Attach a copy of your curriculum vitae or school transcript with the letter of request. The writer can refer to your curriculum vitae for details of your academic achievements and life experiences. List specific experiences, achievements and special knowledge or skills that you possess in your curriculum vitae, so the writer has all the information necessary to construct a compelling recommendation.

3. Include your contact information in your letter of request. The writer may need to contact you for clarification or for more information to help him write your recommendation.
