Superstars and unsigned musicians alike aim to make the iTunes charts. With lots of promotion, the help of an Apple-approved aggregator -- a distribution service that helps you prepare and deliver your content for sale on iTunes -- and some other tricks, you can increase your odds of making iTunes top 200 songs or albums charts without the help of a record label.
Instructions
1. Record a catchy song that is about three minutes long. If you don't have an original song, do what many YouTube musicians have done and record a cover of a successful song.
2. Submit your music to an Apple-approved aggregator, such as TuneCore, CD Baby or DiGiDi for distribution on iTunes.
3. Join music sharing platforms like ReverbNation, SoundCloud, Bandcamp and Last.fm to expose more people to your music and give listeners a chance to try before they buy.
4. Post a video on YouTube of you performing your song. From Justin Bieber to Rebecca Black, many singers have made the iTunes charts after releasing a viral video.
5. Share your music on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. In July 2011, indie musician Jesse Ruben went from not being on the iTunes charts to number 10 in just 48 hours after sharing his goal of making the iTunes charts on all three social networking sites.
